Serra da Estrela Youth Hostel is located in Penhas da Saúde, in the municipality of Covilha, at an altitude of 1500 m and was built in 1938 as a Cildren's Mountain Colony. The Serra da Estrela Youth Hostel is part of Mivojovem's national network of Youth Hostels, and therefore follows all its guidelines of promoting youth and sport policies, sharing the same market segments as the entire national chain of this network. At any time of the year, the highest mountain in mainland Portugal is the perfect seting for a few relaxing days in contact with nature. With a maximum altitude of 1993 metres, Serra da Estrela is an area of rare scenic beauty with impressive mountain slopes that allow for countless sporting activities in communion with nature. In summer it is the ideal place for long bike rides or walks where it is possible to follow the course of the great portuguese rivers from their sources, or enjoying the glacial valleys of Loriga or Zêzere.
