La Pousada está instalada en el castillo de la ciudad medieval de Óbidos desde 1951 y marcó el inicio de la explotación del patrimonio protegido por parte de las Pousadas de Portugal. Este castillo es considerado una de las 7 maravillas de Portugal y en este momento está pendiente de ser declarado Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad por la Unesco.
