Description

Cante Alentejano es un canto coral con dos voces solistas (punto y alto) que se alternan con un coro, en el que también participan. Las estrofas se repiten en un ciclo, tantas veces como lo deseen los cantantes. Esta repetición, así como el tempo lento y la existencia de muchos clubs, hacen que el cante tenga una monotonía muy bonita. Los temas de las canciones, cantados por grupos de hombres o mujeres, suelen ser tristes. En el canto del Alentejo se da a conocer lo que hay en el alma, una melancolía, como la nostalgia, el amor, como los deseos y los recuerdos de la tierra donde se nació. Pero el Alentejo y el canto también pueden ser felices. Incluso hay canciones irónicas o divertidas. En cualquier caso, las vibrantes voces han encantado a quienes las escuchan desde hace siglos. El origen del canto del Alentejo es incierto: canto gregoriano o canto árabe. Así, el Hotel O Cante nació en un homenaje a la cultura alentejana.
