Die Stadt zählt über 70.000 Einwohner und liegt rund 14 km von Sintra und rund 12 km von Lissabon entfernt. Zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Umgebung gehören der Nationalpalast Pena aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, der Nationalpalast Sintra (12./16. Jahrhundert), das Joe Berardo Museum, das Spielzeugmuseum, das Kloster von Mafra, Cabo da Roca, Estoril, Cascais und Lissabon. Diese Hotel befindet sich in einem Gebäude, das ehemals von der Nationalgarde des Königs im Queluz-Palast, als Portugiesisches Versailles bekannt, genutzt wurde.
